At present in the Volgograd Museum of Local Lore there is kept a significant collection of antiquities of the Sarmatian culture, among them unique and rare items made of gold and silver by ancient craftsmen for barbarian kinglets and nobility ruled the region between the Don and the Volga rivers. The book consists of an Introduction (in Russian), a Chapter discussing the objects from the Museum’s Collection (in Russian), an English Summary, a List of Literature, a List of Archive Materials, a List of Geographical Subordination of the assemblages, and the Catalogue of the jewellery and objects of gold and silver metalwork dated from the 2nd c. BC to the 3rd c. AD kept in the Volgograd Museum of Local Lore (Russian/English).

The Catalogue includes 230 items and is organized according the 81 assemblages in which the objects were found, with an information about the contexts, its date and bibliography. All of the objects are illustrated in b/w photographs, the most important in colour. The drawings include a map with the burial sites and the most interesting objects, showing the peculiarities of their construction. The main categories of precious objects are earrings, necklaces, pendants, appliqués, vessels with the hunting scene and with zoomorphic handles, hemispherical and conical bowls, silver phalerae of horse harness, ritual buttons with zoomorphic images etc.
